{"id":18,"date":"2011-04-08T00:41:39","date_gmt":"2011-04-08T00:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.josephweekly.com\/?p=18"},"modified":"2011-04-08T00:41:39","modified_gmt":"2011-04-08T00:41:39","slug":"new-orleans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.josephweekly.com\/?p=18","title":{"rendered":"New Orleans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the past few days I\u2019ve been in New Orleans.\u00a0 It was my third trip to the city and by far the best.\u00a0 It\u2019s really growing on me and might become a place I consider living for a couple of years.\u00a0 However, the insane humidity in the summer might derail those plans.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a trip recap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong> <strong>&#8211;<\/strong> I made the trip down I-55 and arrived around 4:30 p.m.\u00a0 My friend actually lives in Metarie and was kind enough to let me stay with her.\u00a0\u00a0 For dinner we headed into Uptown and picked up her friend who needed his car jumped.\u00a0 We all hopped in his Jeep and went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sushibrothers.net\/\">Sushi Brothers <\/a>which was pretty tasty.\u00a0 I had the vegetarian roll and asparagus tempura.\u00a0 Both were good but I liked the latter more.\u00a0 For dessert we headed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladivinagelateria.com\/\">La Divina Gelateria <\/a>on Magazine.\u00a0 They have some unique flavors.\u00a0 I had three including a delicious Jameson Whiskey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday \u2013 <\/strong>I spent the morning working; however, it was a great coffee shop close to Tulane, Rue de la Course.\u00a0 While there a girl asked me what my favorite breakfast place in the city was.\u00a0 I was glad she thought I was a local, but sad because I had nothing to offer her.\u00a0 I\u2019ll add breakfast places to my list for next time.\u00a0\u00a0 Lunch was at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frescocafe.us\/about_us.html\">Fresco<\/a> on Maple.\u00a0 I got a sandwich but should have really gotten pizza.\u00a0 The rosemary potatoes were on point and much better than boring fries.\u00a0 Monday afternoon was a trip the WWII museum.\u00a0 It was even better than I anticipated and I\u2019m upset I didn\u2019t allow more time to see everything.\u00a0 The film at the theater next door was definitely worth the extra 10 bucks too.\u00a0 This is a must see if you\u2019re in New Orleans.\u00a0 It is surprisingly emotional and even more because of the number of WWII vets who will most likely be there seeing the exhibits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday \u2013 <\/strong>Tuesday was concert day!\u00a0 I started off driving into Uptown via the interstate and got mixed up on Claiborne.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the first time it\u2019s happened either.\u00a0 After making it to Magazine I wandered about and went to several small shops.\u00a0 I ate lunch at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/la-boulangerie-new-orleans-3\">La Boulangerie<\/a> which was decent for what I paid (7 bucks).\u00a0 I had a ham and cheese sandwich and a chocolate eclair that looked better than it tasted.\u00a0 Of course, I still ate the whole thing.\u00a0 Other discoveries on Magazine were Blue Frog chocolates, a really awesome Whole Foods, and a great little stationary store name Scriptura.\u00a0 I got some fun envelopes to add to my stationary drawer.\u00a0 After exploring Uptown I headed downtown to check into the hotel I got for the evening.\u00a0 The Hilton St. Charles was a great choice and I had a nice sized room for a big city.\u00a0 The afternoon was spent exploring the French Quarter.\u00a0 The concert was at the House of Blues and totally epic.\u00a0 I made a lot of new friends (assisted by some whisky) and had an all around excellent time.\u00a0 I was also proud because I stayed off Bourbon.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been there and done that, but that\u2019s not a story for this blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday \u2013 <\/strong>I drove home around 10:30 and had an uneventful trip.\u00a0 I wanted lunch at Raising Cane\u2019s but was too far north once I got hungry.\u00a0 I guess I\u2019ll catch it next time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the past few days I\u2019ve been in New Orleans.\u00a0 It was my third trip to the city and by far the best.\u00a0 It\u2019s really growing on me and might become a place I consider living for a couple of years.\u00a0 However, the insane humidity in the summer might derail those plans.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a trip&hellip;
